The psychology of going AIP

The thing is that we all hate restrictions. Nobody likes to hear what she can and cannot do. And the Autoimmune Protocol requires you to completely avoid A LOT of great, delicious foods which you are probably completely used to eating everyday and which you love. The key to success, I believe, is in trying to think about it not as a diet but as a lifestyle change that will bring you to your perfect health.

There are no quick remedies that will heal you in a day. There are no pills that come without side effects. The AIP is a long-term solution that can let you live a healthy, full life, unbothered by any disease. It is not that you will follow this protocol for a day or two and see some fantastic changes. Try to think about it, instead, as your own personal journey to getting to know yourself, and what creates you, better. Think about what you eat as a sacred part of who you are. Treat it with respect, as you treat yourself. Listen to your body. It talks to you. Feel the connection between your gut and your mind. See how your mood changes with certain things you eat.

Instead of thinking about what you cannot eat, and focusing on the "Avoid" section of your list, look at the list that contains all the amazing foods that Mother Earth offers us. Be creative, and find what feels right. Research recipes, and build your own. Stock your fridge and cupboards with all the foods that you can eat.

Talk to your partner, your family and friends about your health problems and this diet. Share with them what you think, talk to them about your concerns and challenges ahead. They will understand. They love you, and want your best. If they don't, I'm sorry, but maybe their negativity souldn't be welcomed into your life anymore?

This transition will be easy for you, if you stay positive and confident in what you're doing. And there's absolutely no reason not to be positive and confident. You're working to create a better life for yourself. You're taking your healing into your own hands. You're recreating your relationship with food. I'll drink (mineral water) to that! ❤
